How to Get Silica Pearls in ARK

What are Silica Pearls Used For?

Silica pearls in Ark: Survival Evolved are mainly used for building electronics, which are crafting components used in just about every electrical item/structure in the game. This includes generators, outlets, refrigerators, air conditioners, auto-turrets, etc. It’s also useful for building end-game armors, such as the scuba gear and high-end saddles (e.g., the Quetz saddle).

It is also very likely that electronics will play a big role in the upcoming Tek Tier structures, items, armor, and more. Alongside black pearls and polymer, the electronics made from silica pearls will become a staple resource for all late-game players.

So where do you get Silica Pearls in Ark?

What Not to Do

Trilobites & Underwater Caves (The Island)
Length: Long, Difficulty: Variable, Yield: Low

If you want to torture yourself, you can try the lengthy methods of hunting trilobites and scouring underwater caves. Trilobites can be found occasionally on the beach (and more likely underwater on the sea floor), while the underwater caves have pearl drops inside. I do not suggest farming pearls in either of these ways, as trilobites are too few and far between for such a small amount of pearls — and underwater caves are no walk in the park.

The Easy Way

Beaver Dams (The Island)
Length: Medium, Difficulty: Easy, Yield: Medium

For those survivors who only need a few pearls every now and again, there’s always the beaver dams. The beaver dams (or, really, Castoroides dam) while relatively recent compared to many of Ark’s other features have become more mainstay thanks to their precious resource drops.

Cementing paste, rare flowers, and tons of wood accompany small stacks of silica pearls in beaver dams. The trick is finding them, as only a few spots on the map allow for beaver spawns, and players can hinder/block those spots with building and hunting. Beware angry beavers, who will attack you the moment you touch their dam.

The Right Way

Oysters (The Island)
Length: Short, Difficulty: Medium to Hard, Yield: High

Finally, you can do it the right way: picking oysters in the northwest shores. I find that this is the simplest, most hassle-free way to acquire large amounts of pearls. Each node drops about 5-10 pearls, and the nodes are tightly packed. To make it even easier, the oysters glow a white-blue at night that gives them away from any vantage.

The only thing you need to watch out for are the aggressive dinos, which spawn fairly often out here. Sabertooths, dire wolves, rexes, argentavis, megalodon, piranha, you name it — the north has it in spades. Wear the proper clothing, and consider establishing a nearby base just south where it’s significantly warmer.
