Jess Jonassen displayed a nerve of steel when she slammed the four to complete the one run required to win the match for her team Delhi Capitals against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday (March 13) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp, who remained unbeaten, denied RCB their first point in this inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Chasing the 151-run target, Delhi did not have a good start when they lost Shafali Verma off the first ball of the innings by Megan Schutt. To add to their difficulties, Sobhana Asha got rid of Meg Lanning in the ninth over.
Before Lanning’s dismissal, Alice Capsey had played a quick knock of 38 runs from 28 balls with eight balls to aid in the recovery process, before Preeti Bose dismissed her in the fifth over.
Jemimah Rodrigues also added 32 runs from 28 balls with three fours, but she became another victim of Sobhana Asha. Later, Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen did the rest of the job in guiding Delhi to another win while denying RCB their first point. Kapp and Jonassen remained unbeaten on 32 and 29 respectively.
